JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The famed Johnstown Stone Bridge glowed in blue and yellow light Sunday evening as a symbol of "solidarity with the people of Ukraine."
The Johnstown Area Heritage Association, which is responsible for managing the light show, posted Sunday they would make the move.
The Stone Bridge Lighting Project was originally started in memory of Rep. John Murtha and was dedicated on Sept. 24, 2011, after a $1.2 million fundraising effort, according to JAHA. The lights on the bridge are programmable LED lights that change frequently throughout the year.
The bridge was built by the Pennsylvania Railroad shortly before 1889 Johnstown Flood. The bridge blocked debris across the river, which subsequently caught fire and created an inferno that killed scores of the 2,209 people killed in the great flood.
